I love to cook. It gives me peace to put together a creative meal. When I first started baking, I was not a big fan. Baking requires precision, something not necessary in cooking. As I learned more about baking and the precision needed to accomplish it, I became better at it and less frustrated with the process. I still prefer cooking, but I now enjoy baking bread and other items.

This morning my husband decided to make oatmeal. He likes brown sugar and cinnamon in his oatmeal but I realized that I had used the last of the brown sugar making peanut butter cookies on Saturday. Then I remembered how easy it is to make brown sugar. I mixed up a batch and now my husband is happily eating his oatmeal.
It amazes me how expensive laundry detergent is. What is even more amazing is how much fabric softener is. A few months ago, I started researching alternatives. It had to be something that would not fade our clothing, since we tend to wear a lot of dark colors. It had to be something that didn’t cause reactions to my husband’s sensitive skin. Finally, it had to be something that didn’t cost a small fortune. I found my solution.
The idea of cooking from scratch can be a bit overwhelming when you start. Making everything without those boxes and mixes we’ve come to rely on can be scary at first. One thing I’ve done to reduce the stress is prepping during the weekend. Prepping all the veggies you need for the week can save a lot of time and dirty dishes during the week.
